Background Pt. 1 (September 7, 2017)

On November 17, 2016 my one and only sibling, Evan, passed away. He was 29 years old.

As with any untimely and unfortunate death in the family, what followed in the next couple months was a maelstrom of emotion that included grief, uncertainty, and even some anger. All who knew Evan closely went through a prolonged period of introspection. Ultimately, as is what happens with the ticking of time, some questions got answered, things settled down, and we all had to move on with our lives. C’est la vie.

However, our outlook on life has been forever altered. In the months since, the amount of times that my beautiful wife, Lauren and I have said either “YOLO” (yes, dated) or “life is too short” is way too many and frankly, a little embarrassing. Somewhere through it all, likely after a few adult beverages, an idea struck us one day; we both love to travel, we don’t have kids, we have minimal debt, we should travel the world!

Now obviously, “We should travel the world!” is a lot harder than it sounds. We both had full-time jobs, a dog, a house, and a little bit of a wedding loan debt to top it all off. These are just a few of the variables that we have had to make difficult decisions about. All which of course had to be carefully thought out and executed if we were going to make this work.

Throughout our planning of this experience, online travel blogs, journals and other articles have been invaluable resources in giving us information, ideas, and questions we had never thought of, as well as everything in-between. I decided that what better way to document our experience than to add another perspective to the mix to help any future readers who have been inspired to do some traveling of their own. If nobody but myself ever reads it, at the very least I will have a personal journal! In future posts, I would like to detail our journey so that everybody who wants to follow us can enjoy the experience through us without any of the cost.  Hopefully we can even get Lauren to do some guest posts of her own!

Thank you for visiting and enjoy reading!
